Here is a link to only a few things about bokeh. You will find more in images on googles search engine and you will also find more info on the web searches.

BOKEH

Ok, so basically what you need to do is take a photo of a subject. A LOT of people use flowers for this. You want your camera to focus well on the subject, but the idea is to have the background be interesting.

Now, interest does come more in the form of light balls. (Adamaske, I think your problem is shooting with too much light. Your subjects are coming out over exposed. Try shooting at a different time of day.)

You can get these light balls by certain created methods. One would be adding lights to the background such as Christmas lights, or by using a spritz bottle and adding water to what is behind your subject such as, for example, if you are taking a close up of an insect on a flower or just a flower, spritz the flowers behind the one your photographing. You can also spritz them all. It doesn't matter. You can then use a soft flash, or take it when the sun is hitting them but not right on them to get over exposure. Also, watch the white and red flowers. They will over expose much faster. You can also choose other things like birds, animals, or even people. Bokeh is basically only in meaning "blurred" , so you just want the background of your subject to enhance your subject. BAD bokeh would be like a flower and then only dirt in the background or sticks. GOOD bokeh would be a flower with other flowers in the background but further away so they don't become focused in. It could be other flowers, branches, grass, etc, OR it could just be one big blob of a solid color that will really make the subject pop.

SO, let's give this a whirl. Don't worry too much about it. This is only a learning experience after all, so lets just give it a go.

Turn in your assignment here. One per person. At 600x600 or under.

Thanks!
Miss Rose

Since I am still a bit confused about the Bokeh subject, but am trying. Let me know if this is anything near what you are looking for, or if I am wayyy of track! LOL! This is a Magnolia bud I took today up in the branches of a tree at my kids school. Just thought it was cool looking.

This is very good. I would say yes, it meets the standard. The background definately enhances the subject which I personally find very interesting as well. So great job!!

traci- how did you get the white lights in the background? Mine only had a couple -i guess because it did just rain and there was some raindrops on the leaves. That's really hard to get that effect!!

Well, the white lights are actually just gaps between the trees in the background. Who knows? I took a hundred shots...lol...this is as close to "bokeh" as I could manage. Not sure if it's right or not.

Hey! Did you use your flash so it would catch the reflections off the drops? I did use my flash???? Maybe that's it?

i didn't use my flash! i probably should have. i bet that would have worked and more of the water droplets would have lit up!! Yours looks like the examples of bokeh to me!!
Well- it's raining here again today. Maybe if it stops i will go practice some more!!

Haven't decided whether the background enhances the subject or not, but here's the best I have.
