And just to contrast the difference in aperture....

Might as well point out - the closer the focus point is to the lens, the shallower the Depth of Field for any given aperture is. f22 focusing at something 10ft from the lens will keep more in focus than f22 focusing on something 2ft from the lens.

Yeah, yeah - this is 4 images when you said post only 3, but this one really isnt for homework - just making sure the difference in DOF is obvious with f22 vs f2.8.

Here's a little homework I did last night. I've also included an example of the comparison between the two spectrums of depth of field.
50mm f/22 30" ISO 200

Even at a short distance, you can get good depth of field if use a small enough aperture. But you will notice that it does lose sharpness a slight bit at each end. But below this I will compare it to one shot at f1.8.

Not sure if this what you are talking about or not. Not a good shot, anyway..but trying to get one up. *****Actually,it is a good shot pet! Very good use of shallow dof and it is an interesting subject. This would looks really good if you shoot it around dusk in order to ad a little color to it. - kman*****

Pet,
You've definitley got a handle on the concept of DOF. The first one is a great example of shallow dof and the second one has a very large depth of field. Everything is clear, in focus, and sharp. You did a good job with the depth of field. As far as composition, you might want to try and mix things up a bit. The photo is very symetrical and centered. You might want to try and mix it up a little by shooting the field at an angle. You did a good job of this in the shallow dof one by shooting from closer to the ground. If you shoot near the ground, and at an angle, it will ad an extra element and visual style to your image. But as far as the depth of field goes for this lesson, you've done and great job and your images show that you have a good grasp of the concept.

Nice work storm. You have very good depth of field on the first one and the second one is good too. The second surprisingly has good dof, despite being shot at a short distance. But you too have a good grasp of the concept of dof. Nice work.

ok, i think this is what you wanted. pics that are not blurry in the foreground or background and have a decent amt of distance between the two? the first one isnt blurry, just distorted from the raindrops on the car window. hubby thought i was crazy but i wasnt sure when i would get time to do my homework so i went for this.
